Day 2Rafting on the Tara
After breakfast we take the rafting equipment and set off for Šljivansko, the place where the Tara becomes navigable and the starting point of our expedition through the deepest canyon in Europe and the second deepest in the world (after the Colorado canyon). We cross the Piva mountain, Durmitor and Žabljak, stopping on the way at several fantastic viewpoints. On the way to the destination we pass through the Piva canyon and its more than 60 tunnels. We stop briefly at the Piva dam (222 meters high), followed by a climb up the Piva mountain. We arrive in the village of Trsa (1470 m above sea level) and then pass through the "Durmitor" National Park and its lakes. We cross the Sedlo pass (1907 m above sea level) and arrive in the mountain tourist town of Žabljak (1456 m above sea level), where we take a break for coffee and a short rest. The drive through the Piva canyon and Durmitor takes about 3 hours. After the break and refreshments we head to the Tara canyon and arrive at Ćurevac, from where there is a fantastic view of the Tara River and its canyon (1330 m). We descend by jeeps through the deepest part of the canyon and reach the starting point. We pass beneath the impressive Đurđevića Tara bridge (about 145 m), which has over time become one of the symbols of the Tara River. Right after that we come to the canyon of the Ljutica river, the shortest river in the world, which emerges from the rocks and with huge speed and under great pressure pours into the Tara. We encounter the Trešnjevik rapids, the waterfalls of Bijela Ploča, Crna Ploča, Aranđel, Obodina, Mašova springs, Bijela springs, Crna springs.. We will also pass Laza's rock, the place where the Tara is narrowest and deepest. Next are Ninković's harbor and numerous tufa formations. During the trip we take breaks at waterfalls, springs, streams and other very interesting places for swimming and photography. We also stop for lunch in nature.
After several exciting hours of rafting on the Tara we reach Brštanovica, where vehicles wait for us and take us to the rafting center. Dinner.
Day 3Rafting on the Tara from Brštanovica
Approximate breakfast time is around 9 am. Now you will have the chance to try the specialties of our region, home-made food from the nearby villages - homemade prosciutto, sausage, our famous buckwheat uštipci, homemade sour cherry jam, eggs, cheese pies, young Romanija kajmak…
After breakfast you will be given the equipment needed for rafting. The drive to the rafting starting point, Brštanovica, takes about an hour.
During the rafting you can expect more than 30 exciting rapids (the best known are Ćelije, Borovi, Varda…) that will take your breath away with their power and speed and give you a real feeling of adventure and adrenaline. Somewhere around the middle of the descent we will take a break and see who has the courage to pass the "manliness test", that is, to bathe in an icy waterfall whose temperature is barely 5 °C. You will also have the chance to swim in the Piva River, a river with incredibly clean water that together with our Tara forms the mighty Drina River. After rafting on the Tara to our center, we continue on the Drina.
After some 2-5 hours, which is how long the descent itself lasts, we arrive at the foot of the rafting center. We serve lunch when you return from rafting.
For lunch you will have the chance to try homemade veal čorba, a fresh village salad, and as the main course veal under the sač with potatoes. All dishes are prepared on the spot, in our kitchen, from mostly organic ingredients from the nearby villages. For dessert we serve homemade cakes - sour cherry cake, wafers, walnut pies, čupavci…
